Steps to Take After Your Bathroom Floods

6/7/2023 (Permalink)

It happens to the best of us. Even just forgetting to turn off the faucet or a burst pipe is enough to have water gushing through your bathroom. While inconvenient, the best thing to do is call the right restoration company and explain the situation further. If not treated immediately, water damage can have unpleasant effects on your West End home, including unsightly mold growth. Preventative action is always the best course to take after your bathroom floods so you can feel confident knowing you’re doing everything possible to prevent your bathroom from flooding again.

What Should You NOT Do After Water Damage While Waiting For SERVPRO?

  • Do NOT use your household vacuum cleaner to remove water! This can cause serious damage to it, and you could risk electrocution.
  • Speaking of electrocution, the same advice applies to turning on household appliances or the TV. Avoid doing this before our team arrives at your West End home!
  • Stay out of rooms where the ceilings are sagging. Additionally, you must NOT turn on ceiling fixtures, especially if the ceiling is wet.

What Other Critical Steps Should You Take After Your Bathroom Floods?

  • You can seal the leak with fiberglass tape or epoxy putty if you can reach the line or pipe. But keep in mind that this is a temporary fix!
  • If a leaking toilet is the issue, tightening the toilet base can be helpful. However, wear gloves when dealing with this, as sewage waters have bacteria that can be harmful if you come in direct contact with them.
  • Collect all of your products and other items that are still dry and move them to a safe area away from the bathroom so you can prepare for the water damage cleanup and restoration process
