Bring in the New Year Safely by inspecting your Nashville home

1/2/2015 (Permalink)

Bring in the New Year with a good start by making sure that your house is safe for 2015. The holidays are over and people are starting to work toward their New Year resolutions and get the house organized as a brand new start. There are some key things to look over in your house to make sure that the essentials are covered to bring in a safe new year. According to Medicalalert.org, the essentials consist of electrical, home heating, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, security, and safety.

Electrical

  • Repair and replace any loose or frayed wires to prevent fire damage
  • While looking over the electrical, try adding more outlets where you find yourself switching out plugs or relying on extension cords to make your home more convenient for yourself.

Home Heating

  • Examine outside vents to keep excess moisture out of the home and make sure that they’re not blocked to proper ventilation. For example, attic vents are used to keep excess moisture out of the attic and make sure that mold damage doesn’t invade your Nashville home.
  • If you have a chimney, hire a chimney sweep to give it a good look over and make sure that it’s still giving proper ventilation.
  • Have a professional check the water heater

Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors

  • Test all alarms and replace detectors that need to be replaced
  • Clean detectors out to make sure that the grill is not blocked by dust particles
