Keep your mattress as clean and inviting as possible!

Deep Cleaning Your Mattress

When it comes to our mattresses, we hardly think about cleaning them. Sure, we may spend some time washing the sheets when they start to smell, but most people at home hardly pay attention to the mattress itself. Dead skin cells and sweat can accumulate inside of the mattress, making it a toxic cesspool of germs over its regular lifespan.

Fortunately, at SERVPRO of Belle Meade / West Nashville we have some solutions for you to use when it comes to deep cleaning your mattress. Not only will these techniques help with the deodorization process, but it will help improve your mattress’ lifespan. Here are the tips that can help deep clean that mattress in no time!

First Step: Supplies

Before we begin to go over the cleaning process, you first need to buy some cleaning supplies to make this work. 16 ounces of baking soda, essential oils and a standard vacuum cleaner will do. Nothing too fancy here, right?

Step Two: Rotate the Mattress

Now that we’ve got our supplies, rotate the mattress on its backside. You should be doing this every six months or so anyway, but for now we’re going to be cleaning both sides of the mattress. Distribute your favorite essential oils over both sides of the mattress. This will help with odor removal process, but won’t quite remove the germs itself.

Step Three: Apply Baking Soda

Take your 16-ounce box of baking soda and use the entire package on both sides of the mattress. Mix it in with the essential oils, scrubbing deep to ensure that it gets into the mattress. Give it about an hour or so to set in. During this time, clean the areas around the mattress, like the walls or underneath while you wait! Best to get everything in one clean sweep!

Step Four: Vacuuming

After an hour has passed, plug in your vacuum cleaner, and let it do its magic! Make sure to vacuum on both sides, and be careful not to leave any lingering amounts of baking soda behind. After you have deep cleaned your mattress, you’ll be sleeping much better at night!
