Tips For Fixing a Leaky Faucet

3/17/2021 (Permalink)

Drip, drip, drip...those may be the sounds you hear on a daily basis if you’re dealing with a leaky faucet. However, if you hear this noise on the regular, you should probably have the faucet looked at and fixed to prevent any serious water damage from occurring as a result.

To help you combat this issue, we’ve gathered 4 tips for fixing leaky faucets together to help you take the steps toward eliminating the leak!

1) Shut off the water.

First things first, you should shut off your water if your faucet is leaking, especially if water is coming out at a rapid rate. This will allow you to investigate the leak source and also prevent any more water damage than what has already occurred. Once you turn off the water, you can open the faucet to drain it of any lingering water from the last time it ran.

2) Disassemble the faucet.

Taking the faucet apart is a great way to look at where the leak may be stemming from. Reference this article for help determining what type of faucet you have and how to figure out how to disassemble it. The o-ring, seal, or washer may be the reason why your faucet is leaking, and if one of these is obviously out of place when you take a look at the faucet’s parts and compare them to your manufacturer’s manual at home or on the Internet, you may have just identified the leak source.

3) Identify the leak source.

If you can’t identify the leak source by disassembling the faucet, it’s probably time to call a professional to take a look at the faucet and figure out exactly what’s wrong with it. We recommend calling your local plumber to examine your sink and faucet to diagnose the exact problem and hopefully fix it. If you figure out that a simple part needs to be replaced without having to hire outside help, you can replace it and turn your water back on to see if the leak has resolved.

4) Hire a restoration company to restore water damage.
