Mold Prevention In Your Warehouse

3/10/2021 (Permalink)

Mold exposure can spur a large number of adverse health conditions, which is why preventing mold and remediating commercial and residential spaces where it lives is so important. Sometimes blind to the naked eye, mold spores are multicellular fungi that grow by decomposing organic material, and mold colonies often appear and thrive in dark, warm, and moist spaces.

Unfortunately, commercial warehouses often have many spaces like this, which make them a breeding ground for mold if they aren’t properly prepared for prevention. Taking great care to prevent this mold growth will protect your vulnerable warehouse workers, especially those who have asthma, allergies, or particularly weak immune systems that may experience more severe health effects as a result of mold exposure.

So, how do you prevent mold in your warehouse?

1) Attend to plumbing issues ASAP

Is moisture creeping in through a leaking pipe, a leaking roof, or maybe even an unsealed door or window? These should be attended to immediately after discovery. Any sort of plumbing issue that creates a wet space inside your warehouse should be dealt with as soon as possible to prevent mold growth.

2) Clean ventilation systems

It should really go without saying, but cleaning your HVAC ventilation systems should be top of mind. Mold often grows around or in your ventilation systems of they’re not regularly serviced and kept in good condition, and the air circulation also spreads mold spores throughout your warehouse at a very rapid rate. Make sure that the air carried throughout your warehouse isn’t ripe with mold by adhering to regular maintenance schedules for your HVAC system.

3) Perform regular mold inspections

You know where mold often likes to grow? In all of the high moisture spaces in your warehouse! Make sure you do a thorough mold inspection on a scheduled basis, especially in the dark crawlspaces and under items that may not get checked frequently. Also, run fans and control humidity with dehumidifiers to lower the moisture levels in your warehouse to prevent mold from colonizing.
