What To Expect From Fall Storms

10/8/2019 (Permalink)

We’re all breathing a sigh of relief now that cooler temperatures have (finally) arrived. It’s almost time for bonfires, pumpkins, and falling leaves! Many people say this is their favorite time of the year, and it’s not hard to see why. Who doesn’t love to be able to snuggle up in a blanket and sip warm beverages?

But along with cooler weather comes occasional storms, and we all want to be prepared for these events.

What can you expect from fall storms?

From early signs of winter to tropical developments, we need to be prepared for a wide variety of different weather events that occur during the fall season, several of which can be notably dangerous.

This season brings an increase in clashes between cold, dry air and warm, humid air, and these in turn cause developments of severe thunderstorms. You can expect to see lots of rain, high winds, and thunder/lightning during an event of this kind. You may experience water damage or fire damage to your property during these kinds of storms.

Another possibility is a late-season tornado. The number of tornadoes across the country during the fall is smaller, but the extreme winds and flying debris for those affected by a tornado can be catastrophic to both property and people. Being prepared for this kind of weather event may help you to avoid damage from fire or water.

Snow is a possibility during the fall, as well, and when it does come it will be heavy and wet. Since trees haven’t yet lost a lot of their leaves, heavy-laden branches can come crashing down on your home, and you may find yourself needing repair and restoration to roofing, fences, and other parts of your home or business.

Serious tropical weather events can still be an issue during this time of year, too. Sea temperatures will still be warm, and while Middle Tennessee is far from the ocean, we can still experience a huge amount of rain as hurricanes pass up the East Coast. Be ready for lots of water and all the water damage that can occur. Mold can quickly take hold if water is left to stand or property is not properly dried after flooding or saturation.

Whether you need repair or restoration to your home after a fall weather event, SERVPRO of Belle Meade/West Nashville is here to help. We are mold remediation experts, as well. Call us if you have experienced water damage or fire damage.
