TIPS TO AVOID MOLD GROWTH IN YOUR BATHROOM

7/31/2019 (Permalink)

Keep your bathroom free of mold!

Avoiding mold growth in your home is usually at the top of any housekeeping list. It’s unhealthy, unsightly, and often dangerous—especially to those with respiratory issues, the very young, and the very old. Even the cleanest home can end up battling this organism. Today, we are sharing a few tips that will help you avoid mold growth in the dampest room in the house: your bathroom.

  • Wet things. Encourage those you live with to keep wet towels and clothing off of the floor. Install hooks to make it easy to remember—if there are children in the house, it will be fun for them to have their own hooks at just their height. Fun and colorful child-friendly hooks are easy to find, and they will make this household project simple to enforce.
  • Wet walls and doors. Drying the shower door, the bathroom door, and the walls themselves, if they are damp, will be a smart step in the battle against mold. A colony can be established within 24 hours, so you will want to make dry walls and doors part of your daily routine, especially if you live in a more humid environment.
  • Dehumidifier. Using a dehumidifier in your bathroom, especially if it sees heavy traffic, will be a huge help in creating conditions that mold spores don’t like.
  • Materials. If you are planning a bathroom re-do, choose mold-resistant materials. There are many available on the market today so it shouldn’t be hard to find what you need at your local hardware or DIY store.
  • Cleaning products. Choose cleaning products that are sure to keep all surfaces clear of mildew and mold.
  • Closets. Dark areas, such as closets and under sinks, should be checked every time you clean to make sure there will be no unpleasant surprises. Even the smallest leak can contribute to an environment that mold enjoys, so if you find one, fix it right away and dry the affected area thoroughly.
