Top 4 ways to prevent frozen pipes in Nashville

With the most frigid temps seen in many years bearing down on us it seems appropriate to put the word out about how to prevent frozen pipes in Nashville.  Speaking from experience frozen pipes and the subsequent water damage caused have been some of the largest jobs we have been called on here at SERVPRO of Belle Meade.  Here are some ways you can be on guard at your home or commercial property:

1. Remove garden hoses and store them inside.  Close the valves supplying the outdoor hose bibs and leave the bibs open allowing water to drain.  Leaving it open allows any remaining water to expand without causing the pipe to break.

2. Inspect areas without heat where pipes run.  Areas like garages, attics, basements, and under cabinets are areas to focus.  Consider insulating pipes in these areas which is more economical than heating those areas.

3. Drain your pool and sprinkler lines at the end of the season as recommended.

4. Install “heat tape” or “heat cable” on any pipes that are especially prone to freezing.  These can be purchased at a home store and are very affordable protection vs. the alternative.

We hope these tips are helpful.  If you do find yourself in a situation where you need help due to water, fire, smoke, or mold damage SERVPRO of Belle Meade is here to help.  You can reach us at 615-242-9391.
