Christmas Tree Fire Safety

12/16/2013 (Permalink)

When it comes to Christmas trees you’ll find no bigger fans than those of us at SERVPRO.  We have three in our office location.  I only have one in my home but we have three at the office?  Anyway, I digress.   In order to keep your home safe as well as beautiful  follow these steps:

  • Always use indoor, laboratory tested and approved lighting when decorating trees or other decorations.  Bulb reflectors can also be a safety mechanism to help protect trees from bare bulbs
  • Carefully check light strands for frayed, faulty, or exposed wiring, broken bulbs, and loose connections.
  • Never leave lit trees unattended
  • Keep live trees moist and watered at all times.   Watch this shocking video to see the difference between a watered tree and a dried out tree:

  • Set up trees at least three feet away from heat sources like radiators, fireplaces, candles and lamps
  • Ensure trees are secured properly in a sturdy tree stand to help prevent them from tipping over
  • Ensure artificial trees are fire-retardant
  • Dispose of live trees properly once they begin drying out or losing needles.  Dries out trees are highly flammable.

Since 2006 over 5,000 customers (insurance agents/adjusters, home/business owners and/or property managers) in the greater Nashville area have trusted SERVPRO of Belle Meade/West Nashville with their clean-up, restoration and repair needs. In addition to being a top 100 location we have a General Contracting Division that allows us to fix anything from a small toilet leak to the complete restoration of the Green Hills YMCA after the May 2010 flood. We have continued to grow through the tried and true method of treating each customer as we would want to be treated.  Our goal is to continually make it Like it never even happened.”
